These selected photos are arranged in the order the girls assembled the project—from gathering supplies and creating the pattern through the completed comfort bears and their September 25, 2026 delivery to Sunrise of Huntington.
1. Gather supplies. The girls collected zippers, felt, textured pieces, sequins, fabric glue, spray adhesive, and other materials.2. Choose the bears. Soft teddy bears were selected to receive the sensory capes.3. Prepare the pattern material. Poster board made a sturdy, reusable template.4. Draw the cape. The cape shape was measured and drawn onto the poster board.5. Cut the pattern. The girls carefully cut along the outline.6. Finish the template. The completed pattern was ready to reuse for each cape.7. Position the pattern. The template was placed on the cheerful fabric.8. Cut the material. The patterned fabric and felt backing were cut to shape.9. Align the layers. The two cut pieces were lined up before the spray adhesive was applied.10. Apply spray adhesive. Spray glue attached the decorative material to felt so the cape would be sturdier.11. Bond the layers. The two pieces were pressed together—no sewing was needed.12. Assemble together. Cavan, Brooke, and Gabriella worked as a team to prepare the capes.13. Add sensory pieces. Zippers, textured strips, Velcro, sequins, and other features were attached with adhesives.14. Check the finished cape. Each completed cape included colorful, easy-to-touch sensory elements.15. Pair the cape with a bear. Every finished cape was matched with a soft teddy bear.16. Complete the project. The team exceeded its original goal and completed 51 comfort bears.17. Deliver the bears. All 51 bears were delivered to Sunrise of Huntington on September 25, 2026, with help from fellow Troop 161 member Ashley.
